The hot 2013 off-Broadway property Fun Home will move to the Great White Way. The Pulitzer finalist will begin previews on April 4, 2015 at Circle in the Square Theater. Opening night is set for April 22.
Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron's new musical will be directed by Sam Gold. Casting for the Broadway incarnation will be announced later, but the off-Broadway production starred Tony winner Michael Cerveris and Tony nominee Judy Kuhn. Fun Home opened at the Public's Newman Theater on October 22, 2013 and extended multiple times before ending its run on January 12.
Based on the graphic novel by Alison Bechdel, Fun Home charts a girl's quest to come to terms with her father's unexpected death. As she moves between past and present, Alison dives into the story of her volatile, brilliant father and relives her unique childhood at her family's funeral home. In addition to Cerveris and Kuhn, the off-Broadway cast also included Emily Skeggs, Griffin Birney, Roberta Colindrez, Noah Hinsdale, Sydney Lucas, Beth Malone and Joel Perez.
The Great White Way production will feature choreography by Danny Mefford, set and costume design by David Zinn, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Kai Harada and musical direction by Chris Fenwick.
